After teaching Anthropology at Durham, I came to the University of Stirling in 1977 as a Lecturer in Sociology, becoming Professor in 2001.I was previously Head of the Department of Applied Social Science from 1999 to 2004 and held the Chair in Dementia Research from 2008 to 2011.Teaching ASRP01-The Nature of Social Inquiry (Co-ordinator) ASRP10-Dissertation (Co-ordinator) My research interests concern the provision of services to older people and people from minority ethnic groups. I have particular expertise in qualitative methods and working with socially excluded populations and also carries out interdisciplinary research on funding long term care for older people.
